People don’t want to remember, but Texas was a blue state until the 1990s. See above the congressional map of Texas in 1990, when Governor Ann Richards (before George W. Bush) was Democrat, Senator (and VP nominee) Lloyd Bentsen was Democrat and even Senator Phil Gramm was Democrat before becoming Republican. I hope that Texas becomes a blue state again. I feel that there is too much racism in Texas now and that with all the people moving to Texas from California and New York, Texas can become blue again.
I want to tell you about the racism I have faced here in Fort Bend and why I wish every politician from the Sheriff to the Justice of the Peace to the State Representative and Senators were Democrats.
HEB:
I was at the HEB here in Fort Bend one day during Covid and yet HEB in those days did not require a mask to enter and the carts provided by HEB were not very clean, and there was some used tissue on my cart which I pushed off (others were doing the same thing) and then a 300 lb white guy came and yelled at me and so I told him to get lost, to which he called me a piece of shit. So I told him to get away from me or I would call the police. Then he put his face really close and said “come on hit me” to which I said no and he replied “you’re a pussy” and I again said no. Then he repeated the whole thing again. This was clearly an white supremacist who wanted to harass immigrants. A lot of Indians in Houston are on H1-B visas and so they don’t want to call the police, so the white people in Fort Bend and even the police take advantage of that, the police in Fort Bend openly promote white supremacy .
So I talked to the HEB manager who refused to do anything and refused to call the police saying “he’s a customer too”. So I called the police who came. Three policeman came and they seemed to put the blame on me, the Black policeman told me “you were angry and you called us, and we came but no crime was committed”. Then I spoke to the White policeman and said this guy was threatening me but he said that the white guy was angry and so he had a right to say whatever he wanted and “no crime was committed”. So according to the Fort Bend police “white is right” and when a white person is calling you a piece of shit, and calling you a pussy, immigrants are supposed to keep quiet and listen to it. This is the definition of racism. Immigrants in Houston do a lot to contribute to the Houston economy, so why should we be treated as second class citizens by the police ?
The worst thing was how it was all orchestrated so that the police can report what they want, first the black policeman “softened me up” by shouting at me, “look at me” “look at me” “you are not listening to me” and you know when a large black (or white) policeman is shouting at you, they are deliberately intimidating you so that you will shut up and agree, I was literally afraid that if I said anything, then the policeman would hit me. Then it was the white policeman’s turn and he was there to help the white guy I was complaining about, so this white policeman tricked me. He did not ask me “what happened ?” Instead he asked me “why did he get angry (referring to the white guy) ?” Of course I don’t know the answer, I said he is racist and the white policeman said “that is crap”, then he asked me “did he say anything ?” I though he meant did he say anything racist so I said “no”, but I had previously told the other policeman (and the dispatcher before that) that the white guy had said to me “you are a dirty piece of shit you know that” and all I said in response was “Police! Police ! get away from me or I will call the police !” and this is what made this 300 lb white guy angry, but of course this body cam footage is all that this racist white policeman needs to say that the white guy did nothing wrong and that is what he did. The saying goes “fool me one, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”, now I know what the police are like in Texas. The Fort Bend/Katy police denigrated me, but if you read this, maybe it will help you, so that is why I have this page.
I have lived in Texas for decades and in time of need we have no one to call except the police, they are law enforcement, they have a gun and they are supposed to help everybody but now it has become that the police are here to help the white people and denigrate immigrants, so if you are in trouble my recommendation to you is call the police, but remember they are trying to help the white person, so no matter what the police ask you, repeat all the information over and over again, so that the police cannot report only what they want to put in the police report and remember, when a black person puts on a police uniform, they are also there to help the white people.
I stopped shopping at HEB after that, it is a fact that HEB caters to the white people (especially Republicans) in Texas, if you look behind the checkout counters at HEB almost all the cashiers are white, whereas if you go to the nearest Walmart you will see that the majority of cashiers are Black or immigrants. Republicans go to HEB in Texas because it is the “White” grocery store and I don’t like such businesses. If Texas was blue again, the Sheriff and the politicians would prevent this type of racism.
